By joining forces, we are able to leverage our combined expertise, commitment to quality, and research efforts to bring you an even more complete and comprehensive panel for use in your breeding program.

As part of this merger, Genoscoper Laboratories and Wisdom Health™ are now able to offer the patented OptiGen® Collie Eye Anomaly and OptiGen® prcd-PRA mutation tests. These mutation tests will be offered as add-on tests to the MyDogDNA® and Optimal Selection™ Canine Genetic Breeding Analysis for only 20 Euros each!

The results of the Collie Eye Anomaly and prcd-PRA add-on tests will be reported in the MyDogDNA®/Optimal Selection™ report; you can submit the results to the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals and national kennel clubs as an officially recognized OptiGen® test result.

Customers who tested on prior versions of the test may have to upgrade to the latest version of the Optimal Selection™ or MyDogDNA® panel test in order to gain access to the Optigen® tests as well as the latest additions to the panel. This will require a retest. You can upgrade for only 40 Euros plus the add-on test fees. A new kit will be shipped to you.


Descriptions of the tests:

Collie Eye Anomaly, (CEA)

Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) is a congenital hereditary ocular disease found in multiple breeds of herding descent. The severity of the disease varies greatly between dogs: mildly affected dogs can have puppies that are severely affected and vice versa. The disorder is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner.

The mildest form of the disease is choroidal hypoplasia (CH). Choroidal hypoplasia is non-progressive and usually does not cause visual deficits on its own. Mild changes associated with this disease are typically best visualized with ophthalmoscopy in puppies before 10 weeks of age. Colobomas occur in a more severe form of the disease. Colobomas of the optic disc are excavations of the optic disc surface. Large colobomas may lead to reduced vision while smaller ones have little effect on vision. Retinal detachment or bleeding inside the eye can develop in severely affected dogs as a secondary complication of coloboma. This can cause loss of vision. Sometimes the eyeballs of affected dogs can be distinctly smaller in size than normal.

Progressive retinal atrophy is the common name for a family of hereditary retinal dystrophies commonly leading to blindness. PRA is found in more than 100 dog breeds but the genetic background varies among breeds and populations. prcd-PRA is a very common form of PRA. This disease is caused by the degeneration of photoreceptor cells of the retina. The disorder is inherited in an autosomal recessive manner.

prcd-PRA is a progressive, hereditary ocular disorder causing retinal degeneration. The rod-photoreceptors that are needed for vision in low light levels are the first to degenerate. The first sign of the disorder is thus often night-blindness. Cone-photoreceptors that work in full light degenerate later resulting in full blindness. The age of onset in prcd-PRA varies greatly between breeds but is typically present in early adulthood.
